I would not have received much attention at first, and because they have not done so much.
I loved Jack (although I did not know, "Macguyver" played). It was a (if not), an essential part of the series. But I think the program was well developed, and the number of RDA left, could be successfully continued without him.
So yes, I think a show / franchise a player can be integrated, but others need to provide opportunities for the development of the protagonist, and all the people that the audience can identify.
In short, it would be boring if you have a solo show, Stargate SG-1 always felt more like a team effort.
No RDA program would not have been so successful without the other actors who are not well liked.
